SUSTAINABILITY

Weaving a better future

We respect the beauty of the world. That is why we participate in the Higg Index programme, which measures the sustainability of the textile industry. And it is why we are partners of BCI, which is committed to promoting a more ethical manufacturing process for cotton. Lastly, we are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified to protect our consumers’ health.

Being a Higg partner means furthering more transparency, adopting sustainable practices, and ensuring their efficiency. In this view, we are working to reduce our carbon emissions and minimise the use of water and textile waste. Our goal is to create a virtuous cycle to recover fibres and regenerate them by producing textile materials to be used in the packaging of our products. We use eco-friendly materials and prioritise European linen, which needs neither irrigation nor fertilizers and is thus a sustainable fibre by nature.

We are proud to be part of BCI, Better Cotton Initiative a global network committed to making the production of cotton increasingly sustainable and ethical. Those who choose our products are choosing wellbeing, not just for the planet but also for themselves: our textiles are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, an extremely strict control system that verifies the absence of toxic substances in products and protects consumers’ health.

Our choices

Sustainable Textile Materials

We use eco-friendly materials because we believe that this is the first step towards sustainability. And towards your wellbeing.

Linen

Flax is eco-friendly by nature. It doesn’t need water for irrigation nor fertilizers. Tessitura Toscana Telerie exclusively uses European flax, which is considered to be the best in the world due to the weather conditions, availability of lands, and know-how of the farmers and the entire supply chain. Flax is the highest-quality textile fibre: it is resistant, fresh, light, elegant, maintains its shape over time, absorbs moisture, and regulates temperature.

Hemp

This fibre is a friend of nature because the hemp plant needs no pesticides, herbicides, nor fertilizers. It grows without water and has an excellent yield in terms of fibres that can be extracted per farmed hectare of land, leaving the soil in excellent condition for any future crops. We choose it due to its low environmental impact and the beauty of its fibre, which is both comfortable and resistant.

Cotton

This is the most widely used textile fibre in the world. Tessitura Toscana Telerie has always selected only the noble long-fibre qualities of cotton, which are more resistant and naturally shiny. A long and extremely thin fibre is a guarantee for excellent elasticity and high resistance. We choose the best cotton suppliers and make sure they are socially responsible too. We have a specific department dedicated both to checking the quality of the product and our suppliers’ compliance with regulations on working conditions.

Oeko-Tex

Tessitura Toscana Telerie is proud to hold the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 textile certification, a label that guarantees consumers’ health preventing adverse reactions caused by garments that are potentially contaminated with toxic substances.

BCI

We support the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a global network that has the goal of making the production of cotton more sustainable, ethical and profitable for all parties involved. We commit first-hand to integrating sustainable cotton in the global supply chain. We want to guarantee that cotton is produced according to the strict BCI standards and collaborate on certifying farms, textile manufacturers, and resellers.

Higg Index

The Higg Index is a set of standardized tools designed to measure and improve environmental and social sustainability throughout the textile industry’s supply chain, from materials up to manufacturing processes and resource management. Being a Higg partner means actively committing to sustainability by adopting tools to measure and promote sustainable practices and furthering more transparency and responsibility throughout the supply chain.

We have Energy to Spare

Our company has a low environmental impact. We produce certified energy thanks to a system of solar panels covering a surface area of 1,500 m2. In one year, we produce enough renewable energy to cover half our annual energy needs. On days of maximum yield, our systems can produce 47 kW / h and the unused energy is reinserted on the market as renewable energy. Our lighting system is exclusively based on class A+ LED lighting. In less than ten years, we have halved our annual energy consumption.

Our choices

Social Sustainability

We place great importance on social as well as environmental responsibility. For a long time, we have been supporting a project in collaboration with Coop Convoi Onlus, a non-profit cooperative committed to social inclusion.

Solidarity in Our Fibre

Our textiles are not only beautiful, they also have an excellent fibre. We pursue the idea of work as a tool for growth and development. We have created special collections to support the project Altremani (‘Other Hands’) promoted by Coop Convoi Onlus, a non-profit cooperative that finds employment for people in vulnerable situations. For more than ten years, we have chosen the laundry Convoi as a partner – a social cooperative that hires disadvantaged people and contributes to the wellbeing of the community.
